Tourism Authority of Thailand is now promoting Starbucks.
The Amazing Thailand Tourism Authority of Thailand Facebook page posted a special promotion that happens to end today.
When I worked for the US Government, we were trained not to show favoritism. We could not choose one company over another simply because we liked it. Apparently, the Tourism Authority of Thailand doesn’t receive any ethics training.
We always had to be very careful and remain impartial to businesses that had contracts with the US Government.
We also could not promote any commercial businesses.
We had to seek out bids for contracts and choose based on quality of service and price.
And, definitely, we could not tell anyone that they should use one company over the other because they are having a sale.
I wonder if the Tourism Authority of Thailand is also going to tell us about any other sales that any of the 10 million other coffee shops throughout Thailand are having.
Or, will the Tourism Authority of Thailand only promote Starbucks?
Could it be that the Thailand Starbucks paid the Tourism Authority of Thailand to announce the promotion on their Facebook page?
Whether the Tourism Authority of Thailand did or did not get anything from Starbucks to announce this promotion (however late), it gives the impression of impropriety.

I know they love the coffee, better than any Thai brand?
As well Starbucks is it not a foreign firm and is not the TAT function to promote only foreign owned firms in Thailand? Isn’t it their job?
Like the Bangkok film festival?
The USA government has to learn to balance a budget with donations like the TAT is historically famous for.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s job is to promote Thailand and Thailand tourism to Thai’s and Foreigners – not to promote Starbucks.
