Songkran Schedule Failure By The Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen
The Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen has absolutely no idea how to use Facebook as a means of Social Media. They are supposed to be attracting tourists to Khon Kaen, but instead, completely ignore people or put out worthless information.
Songkran, Thai New Year, is happening throughout Thailand, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand Khon Kaen puts out a schedule of events that is completely worthless.
Telling me that an event will happen sometime in a five-day period somewhere in Khon Kaen, isn’t of much use. It mentioned the Songkran parade and when I asked the Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen where and when it started, I was told 1000 on 13 April at the lake in the middle of the city. A little more detail would have helped. The lake is 4 kilometers around. And, no reply to the request for additional information.
The Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen does have a detailed schedule, I think. The reason I say “I think” is because, once again, it is all in the Thai language. I guess that the Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen doesn’t want us Farangs to attend.
The Songkran opening ceremony was held on 8 April, and there was no mention of this event by the Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen prior to it happening. They did post an album on their Facebook page, but no information on their wall. No calendar event sent to their many followers.
And, apparently there was another event held at the King Cobra Village that is not mentioned on their vague itinerary (the one in English). They posted photos on Facebook of this event which started yesterday and supposedly runs until 16 April.
I really don’t understand how they can be so incompetent and not put out information before an event happens. The Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen has absolutely no idea how to use Facebook or any other Social Media.
You can also see by the detailed itinerary that the Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen only markets to local Thais. There is rarely anything in English and if it is, it is after the fact or translations have to be requested which usually fall on deaf ears.
Here in Khon Kaen, we have to mostly rely on asking local taxi drivers or owners of small restaurants what is going on since the Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen doesn’t put out the information in English ahead of time. There have been many times that I have seen a poster or small billboard on the road or around the lake that I have taken a picture of to show my wife and get translated.
The Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen is still living in the past and thinks that all it has to do is string banners along the roads in the Thai language and their marketing efforts are complete.
And, most likely, all we will get from the Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen during Songkran is pictures after the fact since most offices close for the Thai New Year.
So, chalk up another Facebook Failure for the Tourism Authority Of Thailand Khon Kaen.
