Tourism Authority Of Thailand Facebook Fail Again

I was wrong – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Does Not Know How To Copy And Paste

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is once again screwing up on Facebook.  They can’t read information from their own tourismthailand web site.  And, to think, the other day I said that they knew how to copy and paste.  I was wrong.

Here are the two events posted this morning by Amazing Thailand, The Tourism Authority of Thailand, for Songkran – one in Bangkok and the other in Sukhothai:

Tourism Authority of Thailand Facebook Events

Tourism Authority of Thailand Facebook Events

Both events are said to start on 7 April – which to me is strange since Songkran is from 13 – 15 April.  But when you click on the link to get more information here is what you find out.

The Facebook Event says that the dates are Thursday, April 7 at 9:00am – April 24 at 6:00pm

But if you go to the Tourism Thailand website (where Amazing Thailand – Tourism Authority of Thailand on Facebook copied their words), the dates are different.  There it says that Songkran is from 9-17 April.

TAT did the same thing for the Sukhothai Songkran Event.  In Facebook, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Amazing Thailand says that Songkran in Sukhothai is from 7-13 April.

But on the Tourism Thailand web site, it says that Songkran in Sukhothai is from 7-19 April.

This shows once again that the Tourism Authority of Thailand does not know what they are doing.  They cannot even copy information from their own website and paste it into Facebook correctly.  And then they send out an event to over 150,000 people giving them incorrect information.

All of this has me totally confused as I understood Songkran to be from 13-15 April (officially) with a day or two on either side for some extended water fights.

But running a holiday on different dates in different cities (like Thailand did for Chinese New Year) will only confuse people more.

Here is the list of Songkran dates taken from the Tourism Thailand website.  I cannot guarantee that any of these dates are correct and I doubt that the TAT can either.

Nakhon Si Thammarat
April 11 2011 – April 15 2011

Nakhon Phanom
April 12 2011 – April 15 2011

Songkran Festival and Dok Khun Siang Khaen Festival on Khao Nieo Road 2011 (Khon Kaen – the only listing that doesn’t list the city name in the title.)
April 8 2011 – April 15 2011

Nong Khai
April 12 2011 – April 15 2011

Hat Yai
April 9 2011 – April 15 2011

Phuket
April 10 2011 – April 13 2011

Nakhon Si Thammarat
April 11 2011 – April 15 2011

So, good luck trying to figure out when to plan your holiday in Thailand.  It looks like you can come to Thailand any time in April and plan to get wet.  I feel sorry for Ayutthaya – they only get to celebrate for one day.

Thanks to the Tourism Authority of Thailand for making something simple so complicated.
