Thailand Hit And Run Soap Opera Continues

Thailand Hit And Run Soap Opera Continues

The hit and run drama is continuing to play out like a Thai TV soap opera (ละครทีวี). The Bangkok Post and The Nation are now making predictions instead of reporting the news.

Major (Doctor) Hathaiphorn Imwitthaya (nicknamed Dr. Muk) remains in a coma, but her doctors say she is making good progress.  Colonel Saksit Puklan (Phuklan) continues with the same confession and denial that he hit the Major insisting she jumped on his car and fell off when the Thai Colonel stopped sharply.

Thai Police have questioned the Colonel’s wife, but so far, have not revealed what she said.  The Thai Police were supposed to question the Colonel’s daughter (Nanthana Phuklan) and her friend (both supposedly in the car when all this happened), but the daughter had to take an exam – which I am sure was much, much more important than assisting the Thai Police in finding the truth in a possible attempted murder.

According to the article in The Nation:

Lt-Colonel Chote Suwanjunee, deputy superintendent of Bangkok’s Phya Thai police station, which is in charge of the investigation, said investigators were told by Colonel Saksit’s daughter and her friend that they would give information and submit DNA samples within this week.

How nice that the Colonel’s daughter and her friend get to do what they want on their schedule and the Thai Police just sit and wait.

As the forensic results, including those from the inspection of the car and security camera footage would come tomorrow, the investigators would hold a meeting to conclude the evidence on the same day.

Camera footage was on TV and online on 21 June so it looks like it has taken close to a week to examine it.

As Dr Muk’s condition was improving, Chote said the truth would come out soon because she would be the one who knew best what really happened that night and if it was Saksit who really hit her, as he claimed in a statement after surrendering to police.

We now have The Nation reporting that according the Deputy Superintendent cop, Dr. Muk will name her attacker.  I wonder how they know that she will recover from the coma, remember who did it, and be able to talk.  Amazing Thai Police abilities.

From the Bangkok Post:

In response to suggestions that police were stalling the case because of army influence, Pol Lt Col Chote said the only pressure they face is to get it right.

“We want to nail the assailant as soon as possible” he said.

Hmmmm.  Then why wait for the Colonel’s daughter to take an exam and then tell you that she will show up sometime “next week” to be questioned?

Chote Suwanjunee, of Phaya Thai police station, said investigators tomorrow will receive results from an initial examination of evidence, including DNA collected from the car.

“The investigating team should then meet, review evidence and finalise their report,” he said.

So, it looks like maybe tomorrow or the next day, we may have some answers as a lot of the forensic work is supposed to be completed.

It will be interesting to see if the Thai Colonel is covering up for someone of higher rank.
