In case you have forgotten, back in December 2010, there was a terrible accident in Bangkok involving a 17-year old girl, Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya, and a van that resulted in the deaths of 9 people.

Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya Bangkok Car Accident

Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya, the teenage girl seen texting shortly after the accident, will have her case go to Juvenile Court according to this article in Th Nation -”Teen driver’s case goes to juvenile court

Charges against Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya will include reckless driving, casing death and injuries, and driving without a license (18 is legal age in Thailand).

Nowhere does it mention manslaughter and nothing was said to see if the prosecuting attorney had attempted to get her tried as an adult.  This is the Thai justice system for the rich and famous.

She will most likely get a slap on the wrist and her family will have to pay millions of baht to the families of the deceased and injured.  Many of the passengers of the van worked or taught at Thammasat University and a pending civil lawsuit is also in the works.

The police will also attempt to charge the individual that loaned the car out to Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya – and this will also result in someone having to pay millions of baht in restitution.

But, Miss Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya’s attorney sounds like he has a case for his teen client.  According to her defense attorney “there were no traces showing the car ever hit the van”.  This is also typical for Thailand.

From a very young age, Thais are taught to never accept responsibility for their actions.  They are totally in denial.  It doesn’t matter that there are witnesses in the case, that the whole accident was caught on camera (Closed Circuit TV Cameras on the highway), or that she has already admitted her guilt.  Her attorney will have her plead innocent.

To me it is a real shame that she is not going to be charged as an adult and face some serious time for 9 counts of manslaughter.  But, this is the Thai way.  Strike a deal, pay out some cash, and all is forgotten.

So, Miss Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya will most likely walk away and be back behind the wheel to cause more havoc on the roads of Bangkok
