Went with my wife and her cousin to Pattaya 2 to get in a little metal detecting. This was on Friday and Songkran was just about over.  However, it seemed like everyone from miles around decided to come to Pattaya 2 to continue getting wet – this time by swimming.

It was a beautiful day and we arrived after about 1 1/2 hour drive from Khon Kaen.  Settled on a spot and paid the 100 Baht for beach chairs and umbrellas.  Then, one has to order food.

There is a girl with a small menu who takes your order and a guy on a motorcycle who drives her to the “restaurant” and then delivers the food.

While we were waiting for our order, my mother-in-law, wife’s uncle, brother-in-law and his girlfriend arrived.  I had no idea that they were going to meet us.  Sometimes, I get left out of the conversations and other times things get lost in the translation.

So, after eating some BBQ chicken and sticky rice, I headed out into the water in search of treasure.

I was in the water from ankle to waist deep and found a lot of targets.  However, all I found were coins.  I got one 10 baht coin, two 5 baht coins, and eleven 1 baht coins for a total of 31 baht.

Digging was difficult as the water was murky from hundreds of people playing and the soil is like clay – very hard to dig and very hard to pinpoint targets.  Most of my finds took 5 or 6 scoops to locate.

I was about to hunt a little deeper when my battery pack died on me so I only hunted for about one hour.

I will have to convince the wife to take me back.  There has to be jewelry out there.

I also found one belt buckle on the ground (eyeball) that is from Khon Kaen Technical School where my wife used to work.
