I just spent one week at Sai Kaew Beach on Koh Samet and want to discuss some issues. Issue #1 – Sewage on the beach.  There is an area on the south end of the beach heading towards the statues that is pouring a stream of filth into the water and also under the sand.  The sewage is black and stinks.  You can see a small stream that goes all the way to the water and also about 50 meters on either side the sand is polluted.  Soon, the entire beach will be black instead of crystal white.

Issue #2 is the safety of people swimming.  There are areas clearly marked and roped off designated as swimming areas yet speed boats, jet skis, and banana boats constantly zoom in and out of these areas.  It will not take long before someone is maimed or killed as the speed boats come in to offload people trying to avoid the 40 baht park fee.  All the boats would have to do is move about 20 meters on either side of the roped area.

Park personnel should be more concerned with the welfare of the visitors and ensure the beach is clean and safe.  But, it seems their only concern is collecting 200 baht from foreigners and 40 baht from Thais.

Please look into this or one more of your beautiful beaches will be just another dirty beach that no one will want to visit.
