Where the heck is the Thai Food at Suvarnabhumi (Domestic)?

I flew home to Khon Kaen from Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok yesterday and got a mild shock at the food court in the domestic terminal side.  No Thai Food.

Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

I have been flying from Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok to Khon Kaen Airport for about 4 years now and usually stop and get a bite to eat at the food court before flying home as the food on Thai Airways short, 45-minute flight is not much to write home about.

In the past at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, there have always been some fast food places – Burger King – and some get fat places – Dunkin Donuts – but there were a couple of small places where you could at least get rice or noodles and food resembling Thai food to an extent.  They are now gone.

Well, when I walked in yesterday, the first thing I noticed is that the bar that was located in the center of the food court is gone.  It wasn’t really a bar – but it did serve all kinds of refreshments, including beer.

The next thing that I noticed, is that there is now a McDonalds to compete with Burger King.

After getting my food from BK, I sat down and noticed that there are big signs and an area being renovated.  Coming soon will be Popeyes, Pizza Company, and some Japanese noodle place.

Rounding out the food court is a deli-type place with sandwiches, Auntie Annes pretzels, and Dunkin Donuts.

Not one bit of Thai food in the whole place.

There are also two small kiosks as you walk into the food court, and both of these serve up western fare.

I guess it is just a sign of the times and the big bucks companies are the only ones that can afford the rent at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

I also got a bottle of water from the gift shop opposite the food court.  Still gouging customers charging 35 baht for a bottle of water I can get at any 7-11 for 7 baht.  I thought there was a law.

But, this is Thailand and this is Suvarnabhumi.
