This morning’s bicycle ride took me to Khon Kaen University to see if the pond out front had been cleaned up since the Loy Krathong festivities 4 days ago.

It was a nice morning for a ride – overcast and cool at 0600 hours.  Traffic was light on Sri Chan and on Maliwan roads and I get to Khon Kaen University (KKU) in about 20 minutes.

As soon as I entered the Khon Kaen University campus, I headed left to the pond to see if there was any Loy Krathong Aftermath like I saw at Beung Nong Khot the morning after.

I was happy to see that the pond was clean and the waters calm.  The krathong send off points were easily identifiable.

So, three full days after the Loy Krathong holiday, the Khon Kaen University pond was nice and clean.

However, what was cleaned out of the pond was piled up along the banks of the Khon Kaen University pond.

So, it looks like a half-ass job was done on the clean up.  I don’t understand why they couldn’t just haul away the krathong trash once they got it out of the water.  I wonder how they manage in Bangkok along the Chao Phraya River.  There had to be millions of krathongs floating down the river.

Another mystery of Loy Krathong in Khon Kaen.
