I had my wife check out the local Khon Kaen satellite guys at PSI on Sri Chan Road to see what kind of satellite dish we would be installing.
I wanted her to get a list of what channels were available before deciding which system to buy.
Construction on the house in Khon Kaen is nearing completion, so it is time to start planning for the necessities in life – TV and Internet. We decided to check out PSI for the satellite dish company and True to be my Internet Service Provider. I currently have 3BB or Triple T for my ISP – their name keeps changing – and speed of service and connectivity issues have prompted me to look for a new provider here in Khon Kaen.
So, my wife went there yesterday and did some hard bargaining and got a plan where we get two satellite packages, two boxes, the dish, and installation for 8,000 baht (or about $270 USD). This is a one-time payment and there are no monthly fees.
One package has 150 channels and the other 80 channels, so I will have 230 channels of crap to watch daily. The main thing is that the dish also gets local Thai TV, so my wife is happy that she will still be able to see all of her Thai, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese soap operas.
In Thailand, and especially Khon Kaen, having a satellite dish mounted on your roof for all to see is a status symbol.
Whereas, we would try to install a dish in America and keep it as low profile as possible. in Thailand it has to be prominently displayed for all your Khon Kaen neighbors to see and drool over. Gotta love the “face” thing over here.
