Another 90 days has gone by and it was time to head to the Khon Kaen Immigration office to file my 90-day report. My previous two trips to the Khon Kaen Immigration Office were painless and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. So, we were in no rush to get there early and arrived at about 1000 hours.
I already had my TM Form 47 filled out and my passport so I was ready to face the Thai officials at Khon Kaen Immigration.
The past two times I just walked in and one of the Immigration Officers spotted me and asked if I was there for the 90-day report and ushered me straight to a desk to be taken care of. That was usually desk #1 and there was no need to wait in any line.
Today, the Immigration Office was a bit crowded, so i had to take a number from one of those little machines like they have in the Thai banks.
It was standing room only and I had about 15 people ahead of me according to my number, so I stepped outside for a cigarette. And, I noticed some of the helpful signs:
I finished my smoke and went back inside and the numbers were ticking off the board. Despite the amount of people waiting, my number was about to called.
I guess someone must have pulled off the wrong numbers because they called about 10 numbers in a row and nobody moved until they got to my number.
I was greeted in a friendly manner by the Khon Kaen Immigration Officer and he looked over my passport and my form and hit the form with about 5 rubber stamps and I was ready to go. But, I had a couple of questions.
I wanted to know what to do on my next 90-day check-in as it would coincide with my time to apply for a one-year extension(my first).
He informed me that I could do both on the same day and that if I wanted, I could do the one-year extension up to 30 days prior to the actual expiration date.
I already picked up a copy of the form I would need, TM 7, and also knowing that I will need a letter from my bank stating how much baht I have in my account, I asked him when I should get the letter – same day or a day or two prior.
He told me that 1 or 2 days prior is OK, but same day is the best. He also instructed me to bring along my bank book with the letter.
So, questions answered, form gathered, and I was good to go for another 90 days. All I will need the next time is the same form for the 90-day report and the other form with a photo, bank letter, and bank book, and I should have no problem getting my one-year extension and my 90-day report all done at one time. Check again after 18 March 2011 to see if all goes smooth when I once again visit the Khon Kaen Immigration Office.
