Our house in Khon Kaen was supposed to be completed on 9 February 2011.  It wasn’t.  The contract we have states that if the house isn’t finished on time, we deduct 0.1% of the total from the final payment.

Khon Kaen Unfinished House

On 9 February, the contractor showed up at the Khon Kaen house construction site wanting my wife to make the final payment of 246,000 baht and sign a document stating the house was completed.  She refused.

On 10 February, the contractor and his boss show up and agree to have everything completed by 20 February and the 0.1% deduction rule is still in effect.

On 11 February, the contractor returns by himself and says that he can’t get everything done by the 20th and wants my wife to pay him 50% of what we owe and he will walk away with lots of work still to be done.  Again, she refuses.

On 12 February, the contractor still insists on the 50% and my wife refuses again.  They agree to meet at the local Khon Kaen police station with a mediator to get things resolved.

Not sure how the mediation piece works here in Khon Kaen Thailand, but I am sure that it is not the same as the USA.  I will find out what happens later on tonight as my wife goes to battle with the contractor.  She has the contract, photos and videos for evidence.  I don’t know what, if anything, he has.

So, the Khon Kaen house construction saga continues and I have absolutely no idea what happens next.
