On my daily bicycle rides, I encounter my number one nemesis – dogs.
There are basically two types of dogs here in Khon Kaen. The first type are those dogs that actually live at someone’s house. They are fairly well taken care of and don’t get excited unless you get too close to their master’s property.
I understand that these dogs are there to protect property and they rarely give chase unless I venture too close to their domain. They also tend to ignore me the more they see me.
The other type of dogs in the area are those that may or may not have been someone’s pet at one time or another. They may have been born in the wild. I am not sure. What I am sure of is that they travel in small packs – usually three to four dogs and are constantly on the prowl for food.
These dogs are totally unpredictable. Sometimes they totally ignore me, other times they run away, and then there are the times that they decide to take a run at me.
Fortunately, they don’t chase me often, and, when they do, they give up the chase after a short distance. I have thought about carrying a big stick or cane like many other joggers/walkers carry, but so far, haven’t had the need.
The dog problem appears to be a growing one with more and more dogs discarded. I just wish that the city would pick them up and take them to a shelter.
