We were placed under curfew last night, along with Bangkok and every other province that is under a State of Emergency. But, that didn’t stopped the rioters (can’t really call them protesters any more) from running amok. They burned the old wooden city hall to the ground and set the new one on fire. They burned Khon Kaen Channel 11 to the point where it is off the air. And, there have been random tire and car burnings.
The curfew runs from 2000 – 0600 and we haven’t been told for how long.
Bangkok is in worse shape. About 29 buildings were burned yesterday and last night including a Big C, Central World (about to collapse), Channel 3, Siam Paragon and more.
This is no longer a protest against the Thai Government. It is a group of pissed off people bent on causing as much destruction as possible since their red shirt leaders turned themselves in. The head of the snake has been severed (to a degree) but the body is thrashing about destroying everything it touches.
Current and future damage will be in the billions of baht. Tourists will once again go elsewhere. Businesses will stop trade with Thailand. Businesses will not want to set up shop over here.
And who will get blamed? The Thai Government – mainly Prime Minister Abhisit.
Kudos to the Thai Army for showing amazing restraint during the past two months. You also did an excellent job at clearing out the red shirt camp at Rachaprasong with minimal casualties. It is a shame that all you see on the news is the Thai Army is responsible for innocent civilian deaths. Too bad the news didn’t show the mob tactics of the red shirts injuring and killing soldiers.
Hopefully, this comes to an end soon. No good can come of burning the country.
