Partnering with my buddy Tom from Isaan-Live, we have launched a newsletter highlighting happenings in and around Isaan, Thailand.
We plan on a monthly informational newsletter showing where we have been and what we have done for the previous month in Khon Kaen and other areas of Northeastern Thailand, and also what our plans are for the upcoming month.
The upcoming month’s section will be under the heading of “tentative” as plans change here in Isaan. But, we do intend on visiting various areas of the northeast during festivals and religious holidays taking photos and providing insight into Isaan life.
We are planning on being on hand for the Khon Kaen International Marathon on 23 January (taking photos – not running), and hope to get to That Phanom in February for Makha Bucha Day when thousands of Thais make the pilgrimage to one of the holiest places in all of Isaan.
Both of us enjoy taking one to three day road trips around the area and stopping at the various temples and markets along the way. Tom is a map expert and tracks our trips electronically and posts them online. He and I also like to get off the “main” roads and head down the beaten path to see what we can see. Heads turn and eyes stare through us in some of the areas we visit as not many see foreigners in their neighborhoods.
So, we will be traveling around the northeast to Mukdahan, Kalasin, Nakhon Phanom, Nong Khai, Chiang Khan, and other great areas around here. So, be prepared for photos and info on temples, markets, restaurants, roadways, and more as we venture around the country. Being retired in Thailand does have its benefits.
Future editions of the newsletter will hopefully have more details than the first issue. Bear with us and the Isaan Online will only get better. Your recommendations are most welcome.
