After waiting for about 3 weeks, the government office that checks to see if your architectural drawings are structurally sound, approved our plan. This was no easy feat. Each of the 30 or so pages had to be checked and signed by about 10 different people. Normally, this takes anywhere from 2 – 6 months but my wife had another friend who knew someone on the inside and got it expedited.
This will cost me another expedite fee of one bottle of whiskey – so not too bad. And the price for the plan approval was only 187 Thai baht – about 6 US dollars.
So, we are still on track for ground breaking on 18 July. There is only one more hurdle to overcome and that is electricity. We have already paid almost $2,000 to get the poles and wires run, so we hope it happens sooner than later.
Regardless, we will start “building” on the 18th whether it is for real or just to appease the gods.
This requires a ceremony with Buddhist monks, burying some money and other items and will be a new experience for me. I will be sure to film it and take video.
