I plan to take a short holiday in Jomtien next month so needed to book a hotel today.
I have a few affiliate websites with some Thailand booking agencies and make a few bucks doing this. I also book through my own affiliate and get a little kickback.
So, today I found the hotel I wanted to stay at and checked with the two agencies I have accounts with to see which one had the better deal.
One offered the hotel at 1400 Thai baht – so total for 5 nights would be 7,000 Thai baht. The other site had it listed for 1,550 Thai baht but had a special promotion of stay 5 nights and pay 4 nights – taking the price from 7,750 down to 6,200 baht.
I went to book the stay 5, pay 4 but the price showed up as 7,750 baht so I contacted the agency and they said that the promotion price would be reflected after I booked and entered my credit card number. I trusted them.
That was a mistake as I got email confirmation for 7,750 baht. Immediately I picked up my cell phone and called. They said they would check and call back.
About 10 minutes later, I get the call back and they say it is 7,750 baht. I try to explain the promotion and she gets confused and thinks I want to book for 4 nights. It isn’t until I start speaking Thai that she gets it.
About five minutes later, I get a second confirmation for 6,200 baht and a follow-up email saying that the 7,750 has been cancelled and I will only be charged 6,200 baht.
A simple mistake or screw the Farang out of 1,550 baht?
At least my flight and taxi bookings went smooth.
