Elections will be held today, 25 July 2010, to see if #1, #2, of #3 will be the winner.
The real winners will be the people of Khon Kaen that won’t have to listen to the pick-up trucks with the speakers blasting out the political messages throughout the city. #1 & #3 came by yesterday following the speaker blasting trucks to add more noise live. My wife predicts that #2 will win the election.
Tomorrow marks the beginning of Buddhist Lent – or Khao Phansa. This is a time for the Buddhist monks to retreat to their temple grounds and remain there for 3 months of study and meditation. I am sure that they will still go out in the early morning to collect donations from the local folks.
And, if you are feeling lucky, you can invest in the Thailand lottery. Lottery ticket sellers roam the city looking for buyers. Most head out on their bicycles or motorcycles to the airport early in the morning to catch the arriving passengers on the 0650 arrival from Bangkok. Others just ride their bikes up and down the streets looking for buyers.
Monday and Tuesday are holidays for the Thai‘s. Monday for Khao Phansa and Tuesday is a public holiday. Wonder how many will be around to vote today?
