I was making my weekly call to my mom and dad last Sunday, and mom was complaining that my voice was going in and out. I figured it was the network or the rain or both. Later on that day, a buddy called and he couldn’t hear me at all. This was really strange as he was just across town. I then tried to call my wife’s phone while she was in the house and she couldn’t hear me at all.
All I could guess was that the microphone had died. I asked my wife to assist in getting it fixed or to see if it could be fixed and what the cost would be.
So, in true Thai fashion, my wife calls her cousin – the one that works at a cell phone sales shop. Cousin Bee will check it out.
Bee’s mom stops by to pick up the phone and take it to Bee .A couple hours later Bee says it can be fixed but she doesn’t have an exact amtching microphone but will find one that works.
She calls later on using my phone to show that it works and brings it to the house after she finishes work.
Total cost – 300 Thai Baht – about $10.
Apart from getting it repaired so cheap, I was even more amazed when she handed me a small zip-lock bag with the original microphone in it. I have no idea how they got it disconnected and the other one attached.
The one baht coin is for size comparison.
If this would have happened while I was still living in Hawaii I don’t think I would have been able to get it repaired on-island. It would have most likely required a trip to the Samsung factory, a ridiculous fee, and a very long wait. I would have wound up buying a new phone.
